LAPD Ferric Installation

Our nation’s police officers perform an important service every day. The right station is crucial to those officers fulfilling their duties and protecting their communities. A modern building reduces injuries that could arise from an old and cluttered office. Furthermore, a state-of-the-art facility instills officers with a fundamental sense of pride.

To support the men and women of the LAPD, the city of Los Angeles commissioned the renovation of a historic downtown building for LAPD use.

For the main outdoor entrance, the architects designed a prominent staircase. Inside the building, they envisioned a monumental metal staircase and balcony. These focal-points required a custom, top-of-the-line railing system.

The architects collaborated with HDI and ultimately chose the Ferric Railing System with stainless steel infill rails. The Ferric succeeded as both form and function.

The cool slate grey post mounts contrast beautifully against the warm interior color scheme. The horizontal infill rails compliment the stainless steel handrail for a uniform visual look.

Constructed with precise threaded mechanical attachments, the Ferric securely supports foot traffic, both inside and outside. Additionally, LED lighting attached to the outdoor railing system illuminates the staircase so that officers and their visitors can see clearly at night.

To accomplish the important and specific design goals of this project, HDI coordinated with architects, general contractors, and Los Angeles city representatives. HDI has a strong history of collaborating with multiple design partners to complete a project and meet all expectations.
