Circum, Front-and-Center at SweetWater Brewery

In the world of craft beer, Atlanta-based SweetWater Brewery makes waves in two unique ways. One, they draw attention with the classic west-coast flavors of their beer. Two, they create buzz with their wildly popular brewery tours, complete with live music and tap after tap of SweetWater beer!

SweetWater needed to grow both in terms of their space to brew beer and their space to accommodate more than a thousand tour guests at a time.  SweetWater teamed with Atlanta builder Catamount Constructors to bring a massive addition to the Northern Atlanta brewery.

As part of the addition, Catamount created a show piece stairway and a grand, second floor balcony. As a focal point and thoroughfare, the staircase and balcony both required a world class railing system. A railing system to accommodate thousands of guests per weekend and to match the classic — yet bold — brick and steel aesthetic.

Catamount had one request about their railing system: it needed to be made of stainless steel. HDI responded with the stainless steel strength of the Circum railing system. To accompany the Circum, they selected thin yet sturdy stainless steel rails for the infill. The steel rail infill matches the steel post mounts and the steel of the brewery boilers.

HDI builds every railing system to suit each individual project. The Circum railing system at SweetWater Brewery, accompanying the dramatic maroon staircase, is unique to that installation.

Firstly, the ends of the Circum handrails curve slightly, almost weaving between the steel rail infill. This unique touch adorns both the staircase and balcony.

Secondly, the mid-rail infill posts were bolted to the balcony using subtle circular fasteners. This allows the hardware and attachments on all the posts to be visible from the bottom of the staircase.

Throughout the entire project, HDI and Catamount worked as partners towards the common goal. Catamount kept the space meticulously clean and organized. That allowed the installations to happen smoothly, quickly, and correctly.

HDI worked to ensure the ideal Circum railing system met the budget allotted by the client for handrails. The collaboration paid off, and the world class railing system completed the space like nothing else could have.

Thousands of guests per week will walk up the staircase, hand on the unique Circum railing system. Seen from a distance, the stainless steel railing system accentuates the bold, classic look of the maroon staircase. HDI felt proud to contribute their trademark style and durability.
