Circum Railing System for Heartland Credit Union

To separate themselves from every other bank and every other financial institution, Heartland Credit Union needed a polished, modern design. In order to bring that standout aesthetic to their Wichita location, they relied on their architect—Shelden Architecture—and their custom railing system supplier—HDI.

Shelden Architecture created a balanced aesthetic for the two-story branch. Every detail contributed to the desired modern theme. The slate colored carpet in addition to the white and blue paint built the base of a cool design. However, the controlled accents of orange paint and the natural wood provide the warmth to balance the modern décor.

When creating a truly expressive design, every facet proves important. Since the Heartland Credit Union was so meticulously planned, the railing system, prominently connecting both floors, needed to be custom built to match.

To project cool tones and match the steel of the elevator doors, HDI incorporated stainless steel infill rods. HDI matched the wood of the assist rail and the cap rail to the wooden staircase. In order to select the correct material, HDI secured a small sample of the wood and matched the handrail to it exactly.

As a point of further customization, Heartland Credit Union wanted to implement a slightly stronger infill rail than normal. To accommodate this request, HDI designed infill rail brackets that were modified to suit a more durable 5/8” infill rail.

As a final unique touch for the Heartland Credit Union, the mid rails are attached to the underside of the stairs. To facilitate this unique touch, HDI presented the client two distinct options from which to choose.

With the planning finalized, HDI installers traveled to Wichita to install the Circum railing system, working alongside the general contractors.

The Circum railing system adorning Heartland Credit Union in Wichita is unique in three distinct ways: the thicker infill brackets, the unique grain of wood, and the unique placement of the mid rails.
