HOK’s Washington DC location has a highly flexible and open workspace. When choosing a railing system HOK opted for HDI’s Kubit railing system with glass infill panels. HDI’s Kubit railing system supports are based on a single rectangular profile used throughout the system, from posts to wall mount supports, producing a coordinated minimalist design. Mechanical connections are hidden from view to ensure the finished system is as practical and functional as it is elegant.

HOK required a time efficient railing installation to ensure disruption was kept to a  minimum. All the railings were fully assembled in HDI’s Lancaster PA factory then deconstructed into the largest assembled sections possible for practical shipping purposes thereby ensuring construction schedules were met in a timely manner.

HOK is a leader in sustainable design. The Washington DC office kept sustainability in mind when specifying HDI’s Kubit railing system for their renovation project. The stainless steel used in HDI’s Kubit railing system is composed of 45% – 65% recycled material earning HOK’s DC office LEED credits for the use of recycled materials. The glass used in the Kubit railing system contains approximately 20% post-industrial cullet or recycled glass.

As of 2018 HOK is the largest U.S. based architecture/engineering firm and has specified HDI Railing Systems on many of its projects both in the U.S. and overseas including Doha Airport in Qatar.
