Duquesne University, founded 144 years ago by the Congregation of the Holy Spirit, is the only Spiritan higher education institution in the U.S. Located adjacent to downtown Pittsburgh, it offers stunning city skyline views. Moreover, it is known for educational excellence, moral values, and diversity. The recent renovation of the 15-floor Duquesne Towers, with 78 beds per floor, further exemplifies this commitment.

Railing System: Inox™

Modernizing Duquesne Towers

The renovation aimed to modernize the facilities while maintaining high standards. To avoid disrupting student life, the project was planned for summer breaks.

Therefore, HDI Railings installed the Inox™ system on the grand staircase and second-floor balconies in the Duquesne University Towers lobby.

The Inox™ railing system offers stainless steel or natural wood handrails. Infill options include glass, resin, perforated stainless steel, woven stainless steel, rods, pickets, or custom materials.

We used 9/16″ thick laminated glass with SGP interlayer and a translucent film for a sleek look. Additionally, a 1.5″ diameter walnut wood top rail added warmth and elegance, complementing the stainless steel elements.

The Inox™ railing system enhances the lobby’s modern design with stainless steel bars and laminated glass infill for a contemporary look. As a result, the walnut wood top rail adds a touch of sophistication.

The open post design enhances the sense of space and light, creating an inviting and visually appealing environment for students and visitors.

Enhancing Accessibility and Modern Aesthetics

The installation of the Inox™ railing system transformed the grand staircase and second-floor balconies into focal points of the Duquesne Towers lobby. The sleek, modern design aligns perfectly with the updated color scheme and new amenities, enhancing the overall aesthetic appeal of the space.

The renovation project successfully met the university’s goals of modernizing the facilities and improving accessibility for students with disabilities, ensuring that the Towers remain a comfortable and welcoming home for students from around the world.

By choosing the Inox™ railing system, Duquesne University successfully blended functionality, accessibility, and modern design in their renovation of the Duquesne Towers lobby.
