The two-story Best Buy planned for Manhattan, one of the world’s busiest shopping districts, was an important project with an accelerated timeline. With only 11 weeks allocated for construction, HDI was charged with creating a stellar retail railing system. Schimenti Construction served as the contractor for the project.

New York architecture firm Howell Bellanger Castellli designed a central staircase to bring customers from the ground floor to the second level of retail-space. A focal point of the store, the staircase required a strong yet stylish railing solution. HDI Railing Systems answered the call.

The client selected the Circum Railing System with glass infills for this important fixture. The stainless steel railing is durable enough to safely accommodate the heavy volume of shopper traffic. The sleek design of the Circum Railing System matches the modern aesthetic of the Best Buy store, particularly the blue arch features through which the staircase runs.

HDI welded the railing systems’ post mounts into place as soon as the staircase was installed, which allowed the necessary welding and grinding to be completed ahead of schedule. As a result, another step of the construction process, painting, was in turn completed earlier. Throughout the entire project, HDI worked in tandem with the other contractors to meet the tight timeline.

After completing the post mounts, HDI took exact measurements and immediately began to manufacture the railing system.

Glass infill was a natural choice to accompany the stainless steel Circum Railing System. The sturdy, transparent infill matched the glass of the large front windows of the store, creating a spacious and inviting feeling.

With the staircase and the surrounding areas complete, HDI returned to finish the railing system installation.  The Circum Railing System was mechanically threaded, rather than welded, onto the post supports. Mechanical threading creates a precise fit and a secure railing system.
